Think You Ate a Lot on Sunday?
So...did you over do it in the food and drink department yesterday? If so, and you're feeling guilty about it, maybe Molly Schuyler can make you feel better about yourself. Molly shaved more than two minutes off of her record time in yesterday's Adam Emmenecker Challenge at a place called Jethro's BBQ n' Pork Chop Grill in Johnston, Iowa.
What's the Adam Emmenecker Challenge, you ask? According to the Des Moines Register,
The (5 pound) meal includes a pork tenderloin, buffalo chicken tenders, an 8-ounce bacon cheeseburger, two slabs of fried cheese, cheddar sauce, a spicy pickle and one pound of waffle fries.
And, you might be wondering how long it would take to eat that kind of spread. Not long.
The 120-pound eating champion downed the 5-pound meal in 4 minutes, 50 seconds at the Jethro’s BBQ n’ Pork Chop Grill in Johnston. Her previous time for finishing the 6,600-calorie spread was 7 minutes, 8 seconds.
“I tried to swallow most of it whole,” said Schuyler, 33, of Bellevue, Neb. “If it’s soft, you can just swallow it.”
Yeah. That sounds...uh...well, disgusting. How do you prepare for eating that much food?
Schuyler confessed to doing some training, which involves drinking several gallons of water before a competition. However, she said, drinking that much water in a short amount of time can be harmful to her body.
“I go to the doctor every few months,” Schuyler said. “If they say something is wrong, I’m done.”
Well, at least Molly doesn't make a habit out of eating like that, right? Right?
The competitive eater said she wasn’t feeling so well after completing many back-to-back challenges over the past few days.
Schuyler set a record Friday and won $22,000 in Philadelphia’s Wing Bowl by consuming 363 wings in 30 minutes.
Afterward, she defended her championship at the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, winning the bacon eating contest for a second year in a row.
Now, you might be a little nauseous after reading about Molly's exploits, but she does have a great reason for doing what she does.
“I’m not famous,” she said. “I’m Molly, and I’ve got four kids.”
Schuyler, whose husband is in the military, plans to use her winnings to take care of her family and pay off bills.
What's next for Molly after a really big weekend?
Catching up on sleep and eating mostly salad, she said.
Hopefully now you feel better about your own food behavior over the weekend.
