While some will still travel to see family for Thanksgiving, most will be staying close to home and that's what is driving gas prices down.

Rockford area gas prices are currently hovering around $2.19 per gallon, which is 5 cents lower than last week when gas prices only dropped about a penny.

According to AAA-Chicago, the nationwide average for a gallon of gasoline reached $1.80 on Wednesday.

The average gas price has dipped below $2 a gallon, according to both the American Automobile Association (AAA) and the website GasBuddy, which track gas prices.

We're down over 7 cents per gallon in the last week, and experts seem to think this trend may continue.

Gas Buddy says in the past month here in Rockford, gas prices have fallen over 30 cents per gallon.

If you're like me, and I know I am--you've never really considered what day of the week it is while stopping to fill up with gas. I mean, call me old school, but I generally fill up when it appears that my tank is low and in need of a refuel. Now I find out that's been costing me money.
