We're at about the half-way point of this polar vortex's visit to the Rockford area (and most of the country, too), and the complaining you've probably been hearing (or doing) is getting louder and angrier by the day.
Sure, having a daytime high temperature of 10 degrees with a windchill (or, "feels like") of 13 degrees below zero is unpleasant--but we've had it much worse.
This morning, on the WROK Morning Show, Joe and I were discussing the latest news out of the western part of the US--in particular, the incredibly heavy snowfalls being experienced by Colorado, Idaho, and other neighboring states. Hundreds of roofs have collapsed, with hundreds more in danger of collapse. That discussion led us to Rockford's winter of 1979.
As I sit at my desk typing this, the current temperature reading in Rockford is -7, with a "feels like" or windchill of -23. It's cold. Painfully so.
However, as much as we would like to, we can't claim the title of "Earth's Coldest Place...
