State Senator Dave Syverson says Illinois has turned the page on policies of the past and is ready for a new day with Bruce Rauner officially taking the oath of office as Governor.

Syverson joined the show the morning after the inauguration to recap the day's events in Springfield. He told us there's a renewed optimism in the state and the possibilities for growth and success under Governor Rauner.

He also weighed in on former Governor Pat Quinn's final actions before he left office, which included executive orders on the minimum wage and making the Governor's tax returns public. Quinn also appointed the spouses of House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton to positions in Springfield.

Finally, we talked about how Governor Rauner can restore trust in government and convince Illinois residents to share in the sacrifice needed to turn the ship around.
