An hours-long standoff on Rockford's east side ended peacefully.

According to a pres release, the situation started early in the afternoon, when officers responded to a private residence in the 5400 block of Midvale Drive for a report of a suicidal man armed with a handgun. Upon arrival, they attempted to call the man out of the house, but he refused. Several more officers, negotiators, and crisis workers from Rosecrance responded to the scene and began to communicate with the man.

Officials says there was a brief struggle wen Harris exited the home, but neither he nor the officers were injured. Rockford Fire Department transported Harris to a local hospital where he was admitted for evaluation. He's since been charged with Aggravated Assault and Resisting a Police Officer.
