South Beloit Mom Gets Probation in Infant’s Death
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois woman was sentenced Monday to four years of probation in the starvation death of her 7-month-old son.
Kayla Lund of South Beloit faced possible prison time after being convicted in July of involuntary manslaughter and endangering the life of a child. Winnebago County Circuit Judge Joseph McGraw said Lund starved her son, but prosecutors did not prove first-degree murder, which would have required intent.
The boy weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces at birth, but less than 5 pounds when he died, the Rockford Register-Star reported.
The judge said Lund was reckless and didn't care for her son as a reasonable person would.
