After a closer look it's kind of a weak excuse to name Rockford one of the laziest states in America.

According to Zippia, a self proclaimed "career expert" website, Rockford ranked as the 9th "Laziest City in America."

Zippia used "average hours worked, commute time, fewest workers per household, unemployment rate and adults with a college degree" to come up with their rankings.

Take all of those factors and look for the lowest, shortest or fewest of each and Zippia had their top 10.

  1. Dayton, OH
  2. Toledo, OH
  3. Springfield, MA
  4. Rochester, NY
  5. Syracuse, NY
  6. Cleveland, OH
  7. Akron, OH
  8. Buffalo, NY
  9. Rockford, IL
  10. Detroit, MI

What's worse than being in the top 10 of this highly questionable list? Zippia seemed to backtrack a bit when they were explaining why Rockford landed there in the first place.

According to Zippia, "Here’s the thing: Rockford residents aren’t that lazy."

Only to follow it up with, "where it really got hit in our rankings was for its unemployment rate—at 15.5, it’s the 11th highest out of 200 cities. So sure, Rockford is lazy. It just may not be by choice."

I might be wrong on this one, but aren't 99% of unemployed people unemployed due to a lack of work? I doubt that the 15.5% who are unemployed in Rockford would opt to not work because they're too lazy to find a job.

What do you think? Has Rockford rightfully earned the distinction as one of the laziest cities in America or is it just another out of town list picking on our city? Tell us!
