Need something to do outside this winter? The Rockford Park District has you covered. 

Laura Gibbs-Greene from the Park District joins us every Friday and she had a long list of things you can do this winter.

Winter Activity Centers

  • Lockwood Park - Wagon rides, luminary nights, holiday horse photos, parking lot bingo, and drive-in parking lot movie night.
  • Atwood Park - Family field trips, Birds of Prey feedings

Snow Park at Alpine Hills

Snow Park at Alpine Hills will offer tubing, snowboarding, an outdoor skating rink, and toddler snow play area. COVID-19 restrictions include mandatory reservations.

Time 2 Play - Winter Edition

Weekly playground program for kids.

  • Date: Every Saturday from 1/9 through 2/27
  • Locations: Brown Park and Wantz Park
  • Time: 2-3:30PM
  • Ages: 5-15 years old
  • Limited capacity due to COVID-19. Pre-registration is available but on-site registration is also available.
  • Activities Include: Snowglobe Kickball, Tomahawk Toss, Disc Golf clinic. Activities will vary from week to week.

Making Parks Bright

  • Winter Light Displays - To help make dark winter months a little brighter, light displays will go on at Levings Park, Brown Park, Fair Grounds Park, Wantz Park, and Washington Park. Displays will turn on at dusk and be on display through January.
  • Luminary Walks - Luminaries will be put out at select parks on select nights throughout the community from 5-8 PM.

Rocky the Snowman Kit

Thanks to Collins Aerospace, 1,000 Rocky the Snowman kits will be distributed to youth at area community centers throughout the Rockford Park District in 2021. Rocky is the polar bear mascot of Carlson Ice Arena and Sapora Playworld.
