Rockford City Market To Take Over State Street on Friday Nights
I think it's safe to say the 2020 season for Rockford City Market was a bit of a... struggle.
The pandemic caused City Market to kick off later in the season, change most of the usual ways it operates, and then there were the protests to contend with.
Well, here comes the good news about Rockford City Market's 2021 season; it will be officially kicking off on Friday, May 21. Secondly, the City Market area is expanding every Friday night, AND it will offer more activities thanks to a new partnership with the Rockford Park District!
Things will look a little bit different this year with state street being blocked off to expand the footprint from Wyman to First Street visitors and vendors will flood the roadway.
This expansion will not only help City Market patrons maintain social distancing, but it will also allow for more vendors and more fun!
During a press conference last week, Jay Sandine, Executive Director of the Rockford Park District, mentioned that this new partnership with Rockford City Market will provide a taste of the recreational opportunities that are available at over 180 RPD parks and services.
WIFR also reports that this expansion covers the areas that were reserved for protestors last summer at City Market and quoted Mayor McNamara as saying;
Number one we absolutely respect and appreciate the right of anyone to protest, but number two if you break a city of Rockford ordinance or if you break the law we will either cite you or arrest you.
