There's never a bad time to donate blood, but officials with the Rock River Valley Blood Center say heading into the Memorial Day weekend would be a particularly good time to do it.

At this time, there is a great need for Negative Blood Types and platelets.  The RRVBC says donors can donate at any of their four locations or at a mobile blood drive.  For a detailed list of blood drives and donor center hours and locations, you can check out their website.

Who can donate? Officials say you must be at least 17 years old (16 year olds may donate with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health.  Persons taking medications are not necessarily disqualified.

For more information you can call 877-RRVBC-99 or find RRVBC on the web.
