Burger Chain With 17 Illinois Locations Is Closing 70 Stores
We've been seeing a lot of this sort of thing happening over the last 5 years, and while the trend of closing multiple locations of a given business to ensure the health of the entire chain has slowed down, it's still happening far too frequently.
Just think back a little, and you'll probably recall very clearly how Red Lobster, TGI Fridays, Denny's, Ruby Tuesday, California Pizza Kitchen, Chuck E. Cheese and others filed for bankruptcy protection and began closing what they called "under-performing" locations in an effort to keep the entire company afloat.
There are other chains like Wendy's, Burger King, and Outback Steakhouse that haven't filed for any bankruptcy protection, but have and are closing locations to lower their footprint and increase their chances of survival.
Now, we've got another chain to add to the list of those closing locations but not looking for bankruptcy protection:
Red Robin Is Now The Latest Restaurant Chain To Make The Move To Shutter Under-Performing Locations In An Effort To Deal With Losses And Financial Difficulties
According to a report at Fox News, the announcement by Red Robin on Wednesday was that the burger chain is...
...weighing plans to potentially close 70 locations once their lease expires, as it attempts to turn around its operations. The company has already closed one location in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2024, and recorded a loss of $32.4 million in the quarter in large part from the "review of underperforming restaurants."
A Quick Internet Search Shows That Red Robin Currently Has 498 Restaurants Throughout The United States And Canada, But That Number Will Be Changing
Red Robin hasn't issued a list of the restaurants they're targeting for closure yet, but as of March 1st of this year, Illinois is the home of 17 Red Robin Restaurants:
- Rockford
- Algonquin
- Champaign
- East Peoria
- Edwardsville
- Fairview Heights
- Gurnee
- Hoffman Estates
- Norridge
- Orland Park
- Oswego
- Plainfield
- Schaumburg
- Skokie
- South Elgin
- Springfield
- Warrenville
