A judge in Sangamon County could end the debate today over the constitutionality of changes made to the state’s pension system.

The Judge, John Belz, will decide on a motion today – which basically asks him to make a ruling now, instead of continuing with a trial, because the case is so one-sided.

Sean Smoot, an attorney representing We Are One Illinois, says depending on the judge’s ruling this could ultimately end up in the Illinois Supreme Court.

There are three possible outcomes today: Judge Belz could grant the motion and agree with the unions that the changes are unconstitutional or agree with the state that the changes are okay. He could also deny the motion and the trial continues.
