Riley and I had the opportunity to have a brief conversation this morning with Israeli championship fencer Dan Alon, who was a member of the 1972 Olympic team in Munich.

If you missed it, Dan will speak more fully about his experiences at the 1972 Games in Rockford on Sunday, March 30. It's an open-to-the-public event at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free but advance registration is requested at ChabadRockford.com/events. Donations may be made at the door and online.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit veterans of the U.S. armed forces.

Alon told us this morning about the security concerns prior to the start of the Games, the harrowing attack, and the circumstances of how he avoided capture. It's an incredible story and one the he is eager to tell.

Alon also wrote a book about his experience, entitled "Munich Memoir".
