When you think about it, it does make a lot of sense. However, I've never thought of Nauvoo, Illinois as an off-the-grid kind of place. Perhaps I should as a national site just declared it the best off-the-grid places in America.

I saw this interesting new article on Only In Your State. It's entitled "You Can Live Off The Grid In This Illinois Town Considered The Best In The Country". They're talking about Nauvoo.

Why is Nauvoo so off-the-grid?

The Only In Your State story provides much of the interesting history that most of us in Missouri and Illinois already know about regarding the Native American beginnings and the history of Joseph Smith and his followers. What they focused on was the fact that despite the quick rise in population in Nauvoo, it never became the hustle and bustle of a metro like Chicago and it remains peaceful even during this modern age of devices and fast transportation.

My family has ventured around Nauvoo many times over the years (the small store with the fudge is awesome). Now that I think of it, there never really seems to be too much traffic there.

Coincidentally, I recently found what I called an "off-the-grid" treehouse Airbnb in Nauvoo that is located in the middle of nowhere. I think part of the key to Nauvoo's charm is the peace the river gives it as you're never that far from the Mississippi there.

Is Nauvoo the best off-the-grid place in America? I can't make the call on that, but I do think it is a place where you don't feel all bogged down my modern technology as you enjoy taking in the history that remains there.
