Greg and Kjersten Offenbecker run a bed and breakfast in St. Johns, Michigan, called the Nordic Pineapple, and things have gotten weird for them.

They fly the Norwegian flag under the American flag at their B & B. No big deal there, right?

Wrong.

They've taken down the Norwegian flag because dozens of people have called them racists, bigots, and worse because....wait for it...

The complainers think that the Offenbeckers are flying the confederate flag.

Seriously.

When I first read about this, I thought it was a joke. I thought that there was no way that people were so ignorant that they'd make this kind of mistake. Not only make the mistake, but compound it by banging on the door of the Nordic Pineapple to call them names and threaten them.

The abuse became so bad they decided to remove the flag altogether over fears “it was deterring people” from visiting.

From the Nordic Pineappple's Facebook page:

I'll admit to being stunned by this. Stunned that anyone, especially someone who doesn't even know the difference between those two flags, would call someone else a racist, bigot, white supremacist, etc.

Luckily, there are cooler and better-educated heads out there who have shown the owners of the Nordic Pineapple some support.

This story is definitely in the running for our "head-scratcher of the week."
