If you're curious about the dozens of planes that might be seen overhead this weekend, here's your explanation: it's the 25th year of Bonanzas To Oshkosh.

This year, more than 110 airplanes will gather at the the Rockford Airport on Saturday, July 26, to form what organizers say is the world’s largest formation of civilian aircraft. All will be flying Beechcraft Bonanzas and Barons to the EAA's annual AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 in Wisconsin.

Larry Gaines, the chief organizer of Bonanzas To Oshkosh, says the event is about more than just flying:

It’s about camaraderie and fellowship based on a shared passion for aviation. It’s not about the formation. It’s about arriving together so we park and camp in the same area. It’s also allows us to arrive together so we can park & camp in the same area. Bonanzas to Oshkosh has become a family reunion in a real sense.

If you'd like to get an up close look, organizers say the Rockford Airport will allow the public onto the ramp to watch the airplanes taxi out, take off and develop the formation on Saturday starting about 11:45 a.m.
