Lee County Considering Creation of Gun Ordinance

Where can you legally fire your gun in Lee County?

For now, the answer appears to be anywhere you wish. According to the Dixon Telegraph, currently there are no laws governing what residents can and cannot do with firearms.

County leaders are now looking into creating an ordinance to establish some guidelines:

The issue arose after neighbors complained about noise when a store owner who sells firearms allowed customers to shoot the weapons. Lee County sheriff's deputies investigated and found the store owner wasn't breaking a law because there isn't a law.

Simonton says he specifically wants to look at how private gun ranges are being used. He says he wants to make sure everyone is safe without impeding anyone's right to bear arms.

A Lee County Board member says the issue will be discussed again at tonight's board meeting.
