Reasons to Love Galena

Before our kids got involved with sports that had us on the run every weekend, my husband and I would always plan a weekend getaway to Galena.

I love walking among Galena's historic buildings, browsing through the cute little shops, and dining at the cozy restaurants, all decked out in their holiday best.

It's hard to not get caught up in the Christmas spirit in Galena, and it's even harder when you see all the fun they have planned for this November and December!

Holiday Fun in Galena

One thing I love about Galena is that you don't necessarily need a big event to enjoy a visit. You can spend an entire afternoon just wandering Main Street and enjoying the scenery, but thankfully, Galena has a lot more to offer than a shopping trip.

I recently came across a post from The Galena Stay sharing some of the events happening around town through the end of December, and let's just say there are plenty of reasons to make the drive from the Rockford area.

If I had to choose three events that someone visiting Galena during the Christmas season for the first time needs to experience, they would be:

1. The Galena Holidaze Festival on December 5 - This popular holiday event features live music, shopping, snacks, cocktails, fireworks and more!

2. Galena's Luminaria and Living Windows Celebration on December 12 - More than 5,000 candles will illuminate the town, creating one of the prettiest holiday scenes in Illinois.

3. Galena's 200th Birthday Celebration on December 27 - Galena has been celebrating this big milestone all year long, but the bicentennial fun will conclude with a birthday party and a free drone show at Turner Hall on December 27.

Galena is truly one of those places people never seem to get tired of visiting. Every season offers something different, but there's just something about Galena at Christmas that makes it worth the drive. Better start planning your trip ASAP!
