A Rockford man who was arrested on drug charges just eight days ago in downstate Illinois is back in custody after numerous firearms were found in his Winnebago County residence.

According to a press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, investigations into alleged illegal drug activity happening in the 2900 block of 18th Street in Rockford have been going on for the past several months.

During an investigation by the Winnebago County Narcotics Unit and the Financial Investigations Group of Chicago Homeland Security, 48-year-old Salvador Sanchez of Rockford became a suspect.

While in Logan County, Illinois on November 8, Sanchez was arrested and charged after four grams of cocaine were found in his possession.

Following a search warrant for Salvador Sanchez' home, investigators recovered an Ak-47 rifle, a large amount of cash, and two loaded handguns, one of which was reported stolen out of Arkansas.

Sanchez was arrested today (Wednesday 11/16) in Winnebago County and charged with:

  • 2 counts of possession of a firearm by a felon
  • 1 count of possession of a stolen firearm
