Are you a dog owner who likes to take your pup on fun adventures? Take them to the movies this weekend at McHenry Outdoor Theater in Lakemoor, Illinois!

Can You Take Dogs to the Movies?

Going to watch a movie at an outdoor theater is a favorite summer pastime for many families in Illinois, but it is something my husband and I still haven't done with our kids, and I have no idea why.

My kids love going to the movie theater, and I know they would love the outdoor movie theater experience, but it is something that often slips our minds. (Shameful, I know).

Honestly, I haven't been to an outdoor movie theater in decades, so I'm not sure what you can and cannot do at them these days. For example:

  • Can you bring in your own food and drinks?
  • Is parking reserved or first come, first serve?
  • Can we bring our dogs with us in the car?

I don't know about all outdoor movie theaters in Illinois, but at McHenry Outdoor Theater in Lakemoor, you can bring in your own food and drinks, parking is first come, first serve, and dogs are welcome...especially this coming weekend!

'Bring Your Dog to the Movies' At McHenry Outdoor Theater

My family has two happy, well-loved, and rambunctious doodles at home who we like to take with us on adventures, but we have never taken them to see a movie before. Maybe we will change that this weekend!

Well behaved and leashed pups are always welcome at McHenry Outdoor Theater, but this is the first official weekend catered entirely to our dogs' enjoyment!

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
