While the Rockford area had a tough night of weather on Thursday, it was nothing compared to what Streator experienced.

This was more than just a few downed tree limbs and scattered shingles.

Devastating Tornado Outbreak Slams Streator

Extensive damage from a tornado following severe storms that rampaged through Illinois and into Indiana laid a path of destruction in the town that’s approximately 90 minutes south of Rockford.

Believed to have touched down on the south side of Streator, vehicles were reportedly thrown by the storm’s powerful winds, and homes were either heavily damaged or just completely destroyed.

To make matters worse, emergency crews also had to contend with ongoing gas leaks in the area where the tornado touched down. Officials have also asked residents and sightseers to stay away from the damaged neighborhoods right now so first responders can work safely.

Emergency Crews Confront Severe Damage and Active Gas Leaks

The tornado in Streator was one of many different twisters reported on across the Land of Lincoln during last night’s severe weather outbreak.

Injuries were also reported, but the extent is not immediately clear.
