Is This Illinois Intersection Home to America’s Longest Red Light?
If you ever find yourself driving through Illinois, you may want to brace yourself for what could potentially be the longest red light in America at one particular intersection.
I was sitting at a red light at Y Blvd & N. 2nd Street in Rockford for over 8 minutes and there was no traffic coming from any other direction. Sitting there, I honestly contemplated just running the light because I didn't think it would change to green... ever.
Since I had nothing but time to think while waiting at that stoplight, I wondered where the longest red light actually was in Rockford.
It wasn't that hard to find the infamous intersection. Not only that, now I know all the intersections to avoid in Rockford if I don't want to run late for work lol.
Is This Rockford Intersection Home to America's Longest Red Light?
E State Street & Alpine Road.
My parents live around that area and every time I would go to work, I would go through at least 4-5 stoplight cycles just for my chance to turn onto E State.
The amount of traffic that builds up on Alpine is so ridiculous, too! Everybody and their freakin' moms are turning left every time. Forget about rush hour, you'll be at that red light for over an hour (so it feels like lol).
If you want to steer clear of the worst, longest red lights in Rockford, here are the intersections to look out for when you're out and about!
