Indiana State Police, in partnership with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, are taking part in an initiative to raise awareness about human trafficking.

What Exactly Is Human Trafficking?

You've likely heard the phrase "human trafficking" but may not realize just how serious it is. According to the United States Department of Homeland Security, millions of people are trafficked around the world.

Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality. - DHS

They say traffickers use tactics like violence, manipulation, and false promises to lure their victims and that fear is used to keep victims from seeking help.

Language barriers, fear of their traffickers, and/or fear of law enforcement frequently keep victims from seeking help, making human trafficking a hidden crime. - DHS
