If You Have This Sausage In Minnesota, Throw It Away Now

Here's a heads-up about a massive sausage recall that's affecting several states, including us here in Minnesota.

If you love firing up the grill here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and tossing on a few sausages, you'll want to check your refrigerator or freezer first to make sure you don't have one of these Polish sausages.

That's because according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), there's a voluntary recall underway that affects sausage made by Wisconsin-based Johnsonville. Specifically, the recall is for the 12-ounce Johnsonville's Polish Turkey Kielbasa Smoked Sausage. It's being recalled after two consumer complaints of black rubber material was found in the sausage last week.

In a release, Johnsonville said the affected sausage being recalled includes a total of 4,721 cases (or 35,430 pounds) and was shipped to retailer distribution centers between January and February 2024 in 11 states, including Minnesota. Other states affected in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Washington, California, Oregon, Idaho, North Carolina, Iowa and Kansas.

According to the USDA, here's what to look for:

• The turkey kielbasa sausages were produced between Oct. 30-31, 2023.
• 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages containing a single piece of "Johnsonville POLISH KIELBASA TURKEY" sausage and best-by dates "05/17/24" and "05/18/24" printed on the side of the packaging.
• The products subject to recall bear the establishment number "P-32009" printed on the side of the packaging. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The good news, according to both Johnsonville and the USDA, is that there haven't been any reports of anyone becoming sick after eating this particular sausage. Johnsonville also said that it has already been removed from store shelves in the affected states, including here in Minnesota.
