84% of people say "yes" to gift exchanges this year.  54% of those gift-giving adventures are Secret Santa.  If you are one in that majority, have fun but do some research before you dive in on those gifts.  There are some do's and don'ts with the fun tradition that should be followed, including the "Do Not Buy" list.

How To Be The Best Secret Santa in Minnesota

Next week, our office is going to be buzzing with gifts!  Secret Santa will be in full swing and little gifts will be placed on desks pretty much every day.

I missed the e-mail somehow that this was happening - I found the invite in my spam folder last night - so I'll be saving some cash this year it looks like.  Oops.  But throughout the years, I've been pretty creative with the Secret Santa game.  One year, I even set up a fake e-mail account and sent clues through it about where the gift was hiding in the office.

If you are playing Secret Santa at work, here are a few tips on what TO DO and what NOT TO DO:

  • Ask people what they like.  When asking people if they want to join in on the fun, also have them fill out a list indicating where they enjoy eating, what their favorite activity is, or if they have a sweet tooth, what their favorite candy might be.  You know, questions like that to help you learn a bit more about them.
  • Shop local.  Now more than ever, it is vital to search those local websites for deals and help the businesses in our community.  Local always wins!
  • Avoid buying any item on the "Absolute Worst" list below.

Everything on the "Absolute Worst" list isn't going to be true for everyone. But, if you don't know the person very well or have some doubts on what to buy, don't purchase anything on that list.

What's the best gift you've ever received from a Secret Santa?

Christmas Foods That Are Dangerous for Dogs

Avoid giving dogs Christmas table scraps due to the potential toxicity of certain foods like onions and chocolate, the risk of pancreatitis from high-fat dishes, and the hazards of cooked bones splintering. Seasonings and new foods can cause digestive upset.
