Ice Cream Bars in Illinois Recalled for Fatal Contamination Risk

If you've picked up ice cream bars in Illinois recently, it's time to check the freezer as there's an urgent recall due to a contamination risk that can be fatal for children.

The Food and Drug Administration issued an urgent bulletin today alerting anyone that purchased a specific brand of ice cream bars they say was available in Illinois of a contamination of salmonella.

The FDA says the recall of ice cream bars in Illinois involves "5,224 units of Helados Mexico Mini Cream Variety Pack with best by date of “MO Best By 10/11/2025". This is what the package looks like and they showed where to find the "best by" date.

Salmonella is an infection that is especially dangerous for children and in severe cases can be fatal as pointed out by the CDC. The good news for this recall is that no serious illnesses have been directly connected to these ice cream bars as of the date of this writing.

What are the symptoms of salmonella poisoning?

If you or your family have consumed these bars and experience stomach cramps, fever and/or diarrhea, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible. Most healthy people will not experience serious complications from salmonella, but children or those with compromised immune systems might.
