This is what happens when grocery stores underperform. Kroger has announced it is closing 60 stores and that includes 4 in Illinois, some that will close in just a few days.

It's been a difficult year for grocery stores as they deal with higher food prices and changing customer behavior. That has caused several major chains to reduce their number of locations and that latest closures will affect many places in Illinois. USA Today is reporting that Kroger will close 60 underperforming grocery stores soon and that includes their Mariano's brand, too. Here are the 4 that will close in August in Illinois.

Kroger - 3311 N. Sterling Ave., Peoria, Illinois - Closed August 2, 2025

There is some good news to go along with the word of these Illinois closures. The USA Today report says that employees at closing locations in Illinois would be offered positions at other Kroger or Mariano's locations and there are plans to invest large amounts of money into building new stores in growing areas.
