How did this place fade into obscurity? A man found a forgotten cemetery in Greenwood, Illinois that looks like it's been abandoned for 100 years and it contains the graves of some original settlers of the area.

I've followed Faces of the Forgotten on YouTube for a long time and have never seen a cemetery more overrun by nature than the one he discovered in Greenwood, Illinois. Even he said it's the worst he's ever seen and he's been doing this for years. This poor soul passed away more than 120 years ago and his gravestone lies in the middle of weeds.

He did some research and learned this young boy was born to Jacob and Julie Ann Eckert who sailed from France in 1838 with their 11-year-old son, Henry. This young boy was born to them after they settled near Greenwood and passed shortly after.

This man died just months after President Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.

In total, he found at least 60 hidden graves in this Greenwood, Illinois field. I have to wonder out loud how in the world that community has not done something to preserve what appears to be original settlers of their city.

Faces of the Forgotten is more than worth a follow on YouTube if you enjoy the history that is sometimes sadly buried in our cemeteries.
