Most Unappreciated Town in Illinois is Loaded with History
The Land of Lincoln is full of USA history (good and bad), but there is one town that gets no love and has one of the biggest impacts in the state.
According to Love Exploring they claim that Champaign is the one town in Illinois that is underrated.
Why?
Well, they say that the town is only known for having the University of Illinois Urbana-Champiagn in it, but did you know it also has the oldest documented commercial structure in the country?
The Champaign County Historical Museum s constructed in 1857 and is the oldest documented commercial structure in the country. Head to the historic and ever-expanding downtown if you're looking for shops and restaurants but stop by the Art Theater and the Art Deco Champaign City Building for a photo opportunity.
I had to admit I have never been to Champaign, but I never had a reason just to take a random trip to the town. I would love to go see an Illini game (no matter what the spot) and just say, "Yeah, I've been there." Other than that I have no other reason to visit. Maybe that's what people never think of the town.
Let's face it when you planning a trip are you going to Chicago, Springfield, or Champaign? The town probably never gets a thought from people as they plan trips, but maybe there should.
