After Over 100 Years – Legendary Illinois Venue Closes
Nothing lasts forever. Milestones are rightly celebrated. We do it for people, relationships, institutions, businesses and buildings. An Illinois standard for a specific sport celebrated its 100 Anniversary in 2022. Now it’s closed.

The Oak Brook Polo Club has hosted celebrities of many generations, world royalty including then Prince Charles (Who’s now King of England), and the U.S. Polo Championships over twenty times. Last year they announced that the polo season would be cancelled until 2025. Now the current season won’t be happening either.
The clubs major sponsor has backed away and a new sponsor hasn’t been found yet. The Prince of Wales field that is surrounded by Oak Brook Golf Club will remain part of the Village Sports Core property and the Village says it would welcome the return of the polo club should a new sponsor and team to run the program be established.
There are other polo clubs in Illinois, including Peoria/Bettendorf and several around the Chicagoland area including: Arranmore, Morgan Creek, Blackberry, Las Brisas and Barrington Hills.
Businesses close everyday it seems in Illinois, but a club that has persisted and shone for over a century shuttering their doors hits a little different.
