I've heard of low-turnout elections before, but this one takes the cake.

An Iowa man who was the only candidate for a school board seat ended up with zero votes. That's right. According to the Des Moines Register, Randy Richardson couldn't even get himself to the voting booth to pull the lever for himself:

Preliminary figures from Howard County say only 36 people voted in Tuesday's election, and no one voted in District 3, where Randy Richardson was the only person running. Riceville is a farming community of about 500 residents, and the district covers Riceville and McIntire — population 122 — and the surrounding area.

If a county canvass doesn't turn up any votes for Richardson, the school board will have to appoint someone or hold a special election.

Richardson's excuse? He simply was too busy to vote. Apparently, he's not too busy to serve, though. He told the Des Moines Register he's willing to be appointed to the position.

A reminder, once again, that every vote counts!
