Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Center at 4665 Hydraulic Road will hold the first ever "Shred-It" Day from 9AM til noon, Saturday July 30.

Up to two boxes of personal papers per vehicle will be accepted for free, safe shredding on-site. All paper will be recycled securely.

For quite some time the community has been asking us to find a way to offer safe shredding of personal documents.

-Lori Gummow, KNIB Executive Director

The KNIB Recycle Center also accepts general household recyclables including cardboard, plastic bottles coded #1 or #2 with "neck and shoulders", clothing in bags, glass bottles, newspapers and chipboard, metal or aluminum food and beverage cans, and most electronics.

There is a list of items accepted for recycling here, as well as a "Green Guide" with safe disposal suggestions for many household items. No televisions of computer monitors will be accepted. There is a $20 cash-only fee to recycle appliances containing Freon.

In addition to being open Saturday mornings year-round, the Rockford Recycle Center accepts recycling on Tuesday afternoons from 2-5PM. To volunteer, call 815-637-1343 or email info@knib.org with preferred dates.
