Illinois Young Adults More Likely to Live at Home Than Any Other Midwest State

COVID-19 had a lot of families back home together again for the first time in a long time.

People who thought they'd never be living at home again found themselves posted up in their parent's basement. College kids who dreamed of going off to school found themselves doing online school from their bedroom.

According to a report from Pew Research Center, young adults in the United States were more likely to be living with at least one parent in July 2020 than at any time since the Great Depression.

Wild right? So more people were living at home in general, but a new study broke it down by state. Turns out more young adults were living at home in Illinois versus any other state in the Midwest.

In Illinois, young adults are more likely to live with a parent or grandparent than in any other state in the Midwest. An estimated 36.2% of the state's population between the ages of 18 and 34 live with their parents.

So where did Illinois rank compared to the rest of America? We ranked in the top 15. Here's the top states that had young adults living at home.

4. Mississippi
5. Connecticut
6. Maryland
7. Rhode Island
8. New Mexico

10. Hawaii

12. Illinois

14. Louisiana
15. Texas

That's 36.2% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 34 living at home with either their parents, grandparents, or legal guardians.
