Make the playlist, pack the snacks, it's time to hit the road this summer.

Summer is the perfect time to do all the things you wanted to do the rest of the year. Or at least things you wanted to do in 2020. School is out, the weather is perfect, and the possibilities are endless when the gas tank is full.

With travel still slowly getting back to normal, a lot of families have turned to the road trip life for their vacations. According to Wallethub -

This summer, over two-thirds of Americans plan to take a vacation, and 59% of U.S. families say they are more likely to drive than fly.

But lucky for us, the Midwest is filled with great states for summer road trips.

WalletHub released a list of the best and worst states for summer road trips.

Here's the top 10

  1. New York
  2. Texas
  3. Louisiana
  4. Maine
  5. North Carolina
  6. Minnesota
  7. Utah
  8. Illinois
  9. Michigan
  10. Wisconsin

Okay Midwest I see you!

So how did WalletHub rank the states?

With road warriors in mind, WalletHub compared the 50 U.S. states based on 33 key metrics to find the most fun, scenic and wallet-friendly road-trip destinations — plus those that’ll have travelers pulling a quick U-turn. Our data set ranges from the number of attractions to road conditions to costs.

Looks like based off of all of that the Midwest ranked very high.

I was kind of surprised that Hawaii was so low on the list because of how beautiful it is. Then it hit me that it's a list about road trips. I'll see myself out.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
