Illinois Supreme Court Won't Hear Term Limits Appeal

CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Supreme Court won't review a lower court ruling barring a question on lawmaker term limits from appearing on November's ballot.

The court denied Thursday the Committee for Legislative Reform and Term Limits' appeal of a June 27 Cook County circuit court ruling. That court had decided the measure — along with one to change political-boundary mapmaking — didn't meet constitutional requirements and ruled them invalid.

Mark Campbell is head of Term Limits and Reform. He says proponents will appeal to a state appellate court Friday.

Constitutional issues go directly to the Supreme Court. Campbell says Thursday's decision just means the high court wants the issue to wend its way through typical channels.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner (ROW'-nur) has made term limits a campaign cornerstone.
