Aurora, Illinois Will Fine Dog Owners $100 For Too Much Barking

We love dogs, right? At least, most people enjoy a photo of a cute furry friend. For instance, this is our office pup, Max.

How can anyone look at him and not smile even if only for a moment? It's not possible.

Max's bark is bigger than his bite.

That statement isn't entirely true. Max doesn't bite, not even when given a treat. (He gets a lot of treats every day.) Max's bark "size" isn't very big but you can definitely hear it through the hallways here at Rockford's Radio Center.

"IS THERE A MUTE BUTTON FOR THAT THING?!"

If you've ever had a neighbor with a loud barking dog or one that won't shut its slobber mechanism you've probably asked that question out loud or in your head. Illinois' second-largest city has had enough of the doggy babble and is attempting to do something about it.

Aurora, Illinois is done playing games.

Aurora already has a pet ordinance in place and I know multiple families who would be at risk of fines. Why? Because of the number of pets they have. They would have too many pets, based on this ordinance.

Section 9-2: Limit of Animals
There is a limit of four (4) domestic animals per household. This would only include two (2) dogs and two (2) cats. This would only apply to dogs and cats. The only exception to this section is if prior to March 2000, you had 3 of one species.

Residents in Aurora might be coughing up some cash if their pooch is screaming for too long. What's crazy is the timeframe for which the city is attempting to pipe down pups in the area.

Aurora's updated "excessive noise" law states dog owners could face a $100 fine if their dog barks for more than 15 minutes "between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m." But what about overnight, I couldn't find anything about that in their list of ordinances.
