IL Senator Says Rockford Public School District Is Misusing Funds
Rockford Public School District 205 board members voted on a 2019 budget which includes an additional $8.5 million provided by the state. The extra funds will go toward programming/technology, new positions, and salaries, which sounds appropriate. One of Illinois' State Representatives disagrees with that plan, though. Dave Syverson thinks the money is being misused.
According to WREX,
State Senator Dave Syverson, R-Rockford, says that money was meant to lower your property tax bill. However, that stipulation was not written into the law.
Based on the report of the approval meeting, no one else argued in Syverson's favor. In fact, RPS 205's CFO told WREX, "we are committed to supporting the students and being very conscious on our tax dollars."
It would be interesting to get taxpayers thoughts on which is more important to them, lower property taxes or education. Hmmm...
I reached out to Senator Syverson for comment and he has not responded as of this writing.
