There's another option to pay for tolls once the Illinois Tollway goes completely cashless if you don't want to purchase an I-Pass.

In February, when the Illinois Tollway went cashless, many without an I-Pass had to hurry and get signed up. Using an I-Pass really is the simplest way to pay your tolls. An I-Pass is also the cheapest way to pay your tolls. If you use an I-Pass, you get a fifty percent discount on tolls. The tolls are automatically deducted from the I-Pass account you set up.

How to get an I-Pass

To get an I-Pass, head to GetIPass.com and open an account. You can also stop at a Road Ranger gas station or Jewel-Osco and pick up a transponder. This really is the best option, in my opinion, as I-Pass users get that discount.

Now, there's another option for paying for your tolls.

Pay By Plate, the Illinois Tollway's new option for paying your tolls

With the Pay By Plate option, you can pay your tolls electronically without having to sign up for an I-Pass account. Whether you just traveled or are about to travel, you can sign up for Pay By Plate by visiting illinoistollway.com and entering your license plate details, dates of travel and a payment method, according to abc7chicago.com.

The Illinois Tollway system allows you 14 days to pay your tolls without any fees or fines.
