There's good news and bad news for the Stateline area according to a new ranking of the healthiest counties in Illinois.

Reboot Illinois says they used the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps 2014 national health rankings to determine the list. That includes factors like length of life, quality of life, personal health behaviors, access to clinical care, socioeconomic indicators, and physical environment.

First the good news: four local counties make the healthiest list. That's Jo Daviess (5th healthiest), DeKalb (10th), Boone (18th), and Ogle (24th).

Now the bad news: Winnebago County is among the 25 least healthiest counties in Illinois, checking in at #79. Here's the nitty-gritty:

79. Winnebago

  • Adult population with poor or fair health: 15 percent
  • Adult obesity: 29 percent
  • Excessive drinking: 18 percent
  • Physical inactivity: 26 percent
  • Uninsured: 15 percent
  • High school graduation: 81 percent
  • Children in single-parent households: 41 percent
  • Violent crime rate: 892
  • Air pollution: 12.3

In fact, if you look at the map, Winnebago is the only county on the bottom 25 list in northern Illinois. Much of the list is clustered in the far southern part of the state.
