This is kind of wild, and a total, "did you know?"

For me, I always thought the only places in the US to surf are in California and Hawaii.

I'm sure there are other cities and states where you can hang ten too, but those are the two that certainly come to mind first.

So I have to admit, I was completely stunned to find out there was a place in Wisconsin where you can surf too.

It's such a popular spot for surfing it's called the Malibu of the Midwest.

The Daily Meal alerted me to these shenanigans in their Stange Facts About Every State where they mentioned:

Australia, Hawaii, South Africa … Sheboygan, Wisconsin? Believe it or not, this underrated American city is renowned for its great surfing, so much so that it’s been dubbed “the Malibu of the Midwest.” Surfers take to Lake Michigan year-round, but prime surf season is actually during the winter.

Let that sink in for a second, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where I immediately think of polka music and faucets, is also one of the best spots for surfing in America.

It's not some passing fad either. There's a store solely about surfing in Sheboygan called EOS Surf Shop, which describes itself as "Wisconsin's first and only dedicated surf shop."

Just in case you need further confirmation of the surf community's backing of Sheboygan as a real deal surf spot, surf-forecast.com calls it a "quite reliable surf" and it rates a 3.2 out of 5.

Not bad for a city in the heart of America.
