Icy road conditions are causing problems across the Stateline area with dozens of crashes reported and some streets completely shut down. Officials are urging residents to stay off the roads:

Illinois State Police District 16 and District 1 officials are urging motorists to stay off of roadways due to the icy conditions this evening January 10, 2014.
“We are receiving reports of hundreds of crashes and vehicles that have slid off of the roadways.  We have at least fifty calls for assistance pending.  We are urging motorists to avoid traveling if at all possible until the roadways can be adequately cleared,” said D16 Interim Commander John Biffany.

Among the problems as of 6pm:

  • -Accident: Sandy Hollow between 20th and 11th because of icy roads. Traffic stopped.
  • -Accident: SUV vs. School Bus on Ohio Parkway between Harrison and Wesleyan. No reported injuries
  • -Multiple accidents on 251 between Riverside and Hononegah.
  • -Cars spinning out on hill on Fairview in front of Fairview School.-Fifteen plus cars in the ditch between Stillman Valley and Byron on 72.
  • -Police blocking parts of 20th near Harrison due to flooding.
  • -Salt truck in ditch near Riverside and McFarland.
  • -Cars at a stand still and sliding into each other on 173 between Capron and Poplar Grove.
