The internet is a fascinating place. Everyday I try to learn something new about the city of Rockford and if there's something that really tickles my fancy, I love to share it with you.

As I was researching the history of the Forest City, I came across this panoramic photo from 1911; talk about a cool piece of history. I found myself wondering what life was like here back then. Was it better? Was it worse? When this was taken, the city had only been established for a short 77 years, well technically 59 considering it wasn't chartered as a city until 1852.

Judging by the photo, manufacturing was booming and the city was thriving.

Click on the photo and take a close look. Can you tell where the photo was taken from? I was kind of excited because I could pick out a landmark or two; which tells me I'm really starting to get to know my way around Rockford, but it would be fun to go back to the exact location and take a second picture.
