Good news for fans of the Black Hawk statue overlooking the Rock River at Lowden State Park.

Officials working to restore the statue say work should be finished next summer. According to the Dixon Telegraph:

Amy Lamb-Woods is project engineer for the Chicago-based studio and engineering firm that the state hired to repair the 104-year-old Black Hawk statue. She [says] workers started cleaning the statue this summer and are doing tests to see what materials are best for repairs.

A group raising money for the renovations says it has colleccted nearly $750,000 of the estimated needed $825,000.
