Discount Retailer Now Says They’re Closing More Illinois Stores

There's no need to run down the big list of places that have closed their doors forever, whether they were selling food or anything else, because we see these announcements happening nearly every week. You may have kept a running tally in your head.

In this case, what started out as closing around 300 underperforming stores in order to keep a company going has mushroomed into a declaration of bankruptcy and a really uncertain future for a discount retailer with 29 locations scattered throughout Illinois.

After shutting down those 300 spots, this retailer is now going to close even more, and some of their Illinois locations will be among those stores targeted for permanent closure.

Big Lots Closed 300 Stores Last Month, Hoping That Those Closures Would Help The Company Regain Profitability, But Then They Abruptly Declared Bankruptcy Last Monday

Here's the announcement from Monday on the Big Lots website:

Specifically, Big Lots has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Nexus Capital Management LP. Operating under new ownership who believes in our business and provides increased financial stability will improve our long-term profitability.
We also intend to continue optimizing our store footprint during the process. Though most of our stores are profitable, and we are taking every step possible to improve the profitability of all our stores, we will need to close certain locations to ensure that our business operates efficiently and we can continue serving our customers.

And, those "certain locations" include more Illinois stores.

Big Lots Had Already Closed Some Of Their Illinois Locations A Month Or So Back, But Now There Are More Illinois Stores That Will Be Shut Down In The Near Future

Here's the list of the current locations of Big Lots stores in Illinois. The stores with a line drawn through them are the Illinois stores currently already closed or being now being scheduled for closing after the latest announcement:
