• Two men have been arrested for impersonating police officers. 22-year-old Lawrence Jackson and 28-year-old Earl Jones are now facing multiple charges. It happened on April 30th near Mulford and Harrison when the two suspects tried pulling over a woman using flashing red and blue lights. Officials say she did not pull over, but rather pulled into a gas station and the vehicle fled the area. It was later spotted by officers and the two were taken into custody.
  • Graduating from college could leave you feeling unhappy. A recent study of 30,000 graduates finds those with no student loan debt were seven times more likely to be happy than those with more than $40,000 in debt. The Gallop-Purdue University study also found there was little difference between public and private school grads in terms of their future well-being and workplace engagement. What did matter were the experiences graduates had while in college.
  • Illinois has inked a deal with Indiana for a toll road connecting Interstates 55 and 65. Illinois has agreed to pay at least $250 million toward the cost of the Illiana Expressway. Supporters say the 47-mile-long road will be a job-creator while critics say it will hurt farms and wildlife habitat and the economic benefits will be minimal.
  • Illinois prison officials say a new hepatitis drug likely won't be as costly as initially reported. Authorities worried Sovaldi could cost the Illinois Department of Corrections tens of millions of dollars if it was used to treat inmates who have the blood-borne infection. The drug, however, would cost less than $6 million if it’s used. Studies have shown the medication has a cure rate of 95 percent.
  • Federal statistics show sales from Illinois organic farms more than tripled during a five-year period. Officials say the state's farms reached $26.2 million in 2012. That's up from $8.3 million in 2007. The U.S. Department of Agriculture figures show sales growth came despite the fact that the overall number of farms in the state fell during the same period.
