5 Things You Didn’t Know You Could BBQ
As summer is winding down and we find ourselves diving into fall, I'm sure you have gotten bored with the same chicken and burgers on the grill. There are so many different things you could barbecue on the grill.
I worked in the hospitality industry for a very long time. I really enjoyed learning about different ways to prepare everyday food items to enhance their flavor.
One of Chef's favorite things to do was grill and he taught me a few tips and tricks on the way.
Did you know you could BBQ these 5 different things?
1. Avocado
Yeah, that green squishy thing is absolutely amazing on top of fresh fajitas after it had it's round on the grill. Take my advice on this one. Slice the avocado in half, and remove the pit. Lay it flesh down on the grill and leave for about a minute or so, then remove. The heat makes the avocado just melt in your mouth and the grill gives it a nice smokey flavor.
2. Romaine Lettuce
I had this at a restaurant once and it completely blew my mind. All you have to do is wash the lettuce, cut the head in half and drizzle a little bit of olive oil over it. Toss it on the grill and remove when charred.
3. Pineapple
Grilled pineapple will rock your world. Chef would always make me a few slices and put it aside for me. He knew it was my favorite. All you have to do is slice your pineapple in rings, sprinkle with a little brown sugar and put them on the grill. The brown sugar and the natural sugar from the pineapple caramelize together making the most delectable treat!
4. Cheese
That Martha Stewart is a genius. I can't believe I have never thought of this. Cheese is my favorite food of them all and her recipe for a grilled cheese wheel knocks it out of the park. You can purchase a cheese wheel with a think rind and toss it on the grill. It will get nice and gooey on the inside and will be oh so tasty on crackers.
5. Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Enough said. It's not called a "stove-top-toasted cheese sandwich" is it? I didn't think so.
What is the craziest thing you have ever made on the grill?
One thing I've never had is a Pork Loin Lollipop. But I can't wait to try it this Saturday at Brews and BBQs featuring Bret Michaels! I hope to see you there!
