Are you dreaming of a White Christmas? Just like the ones you used to know?

If that's the case, your best bet is to head to Idaho, Minnesota, Maine, Upstate New York, the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania or West Virginia. According to the National Climate Data Center, those locations are most likely to have a blanket of snow on December 25th.

As for the Stateline area, the map indicates we have about a 50/50 shot for a White Chirstmas. The numbers are all based on historical data:

The “Historical Probability of a White Christmas Map” shows the climatological probability of at least 1 inch of snow being on the ground on December 25 in the lower 48 states...This map is based on the 1981–2010 Climate Normals, which are the latest three-decade averages of several climatological measurements.

Now, as they say, these numbers only are based on the climatological probability that it will happen. Actual conditions may vary widely from year-to-year based on weather patterns. However, as you can see here, the long-term forecast for our area doesn't look promising for a great deal of snow before Christmas.

Oh well.
