Illinois Drivers: Which Cars Get Bird Pooped On the Most?
Working at a radio station with three towers reaching for the sky in the backyard does have a major drawback, and the photo above clearly shows what that drawback is:
The station's towers attract lots and lots of birds, and those birds show their appreciation for the towers by emptying their lower GI tracts all over the cars in our parking lot. A lot. Daily.
It's hard not to take it personally, especially when nearly one-third of us seem to seriously think that the birds are absolutely pooping on our personal car on purpose, according to a piece at StudyFinds.org. What's the old quote? "It's not paranoia if they're really trying to poop on you," or something like that.
Your Vehicle's Color May Have A Lot To Do With Whether Or Not You'll Be Targeted By Pooping Birds
Do you drive a brown vehicle? That might be your problem right there.
Brown car owners may want to rethink their color choice. A new survey of 1,000 American drivers reveals that brown vehicles attract the most bird droppings, followed by red and black cars. White and silver cars ranked lowest, suggesting that lighter colors may offer some protection from the aerial assault that costs Americans hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
I'm not really a fan of brown vehicles, but red and black are two very, very popular vehicle colors...that birds don't like much more than brown ones.
Another fun fact from the study is that "Nearly a quarter of Americans (24%) spend over $500 annually on car washes and repairs related to bird droppings, with Tesla and BMW owners facing the steepest bills."
Okay, So Brown, Red, And Black Colors Are Out If You're Trying To Keep The Bird Droppings On Your Vehicle To A Minimum--But What About Brand-Specific Vehicles?
According to the study's results, these are your top 10 most-pooped-upon vehicle brands:
- Ram trucks
- Jeep
- Chevrolet
- Nissan
- Dodge
- Kia
- Tesla
- Audi
- Ford
- Subaru
Close to one-third of Americans (29%) feel like birds have personally singled out their vehicle for attack. Lexus drivers feel the most targeted, with 47% reporting that sensation, followed by Tesla owners at 39% and Dodge drivers at 35%.
Over half of Americans (58%) said their car had been pooped on more than once in the same day. For some, the problem disrupted daily life. More than 1 in 20 Americans (6%) canceled or delayed plans because their car was too dirty from bird droppings, and over 1 in 10 (14%) got droppings on themselves while getting in or out of their vehicle.
For all of that irritation and expense, we still find a way to have a laugh about it (Warning: Some Language Is NSFW):
