Two of America’s Most Secluded and Serene Lakes Are Close to Rockford
Does your ideal vacation come with very little hustle and very little bustle?
If all you do is live the hustle and bustle lifestyle, maybe a lake or two where the only real thing to do is unwind should be on your summer to-do list.
Cheapism put together a list of the 30 Serene and Secluded Lakes Worth The Drive, and while gorgeous, only a few are really within a decent distance of Rockford.
Sure, one is a bit of a haul but when you're trying to get away from it all, why would you settle for something in your very own backyard?
I'll start with the closest lake first, Elkhart Lake, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This place seems so serene it looks like the perfect body of water to get out on a paddleboard to just take it all in.
If you could only win a paddleboard. How great would that be?
Anyway, Cheapism had some serious praise for Elkhart Lake saying "Rent a pontoon boat, explore the town's cute business district, or recharge with a good book."
About 150 miles from Rockford, it looks like it will take you less than two and a half hours to get to Elkhart Lake.
The other lake is going to take you a few more minutes to get to but it sounds like it's totally worth it.
Down south in Ilinois, there sits an interesting and from the sound of things, a "serene and secluded" area called Crab Orchard Lake.
...this lake near the equally underrated college town of Carbondale is the perfect place to soak in the local flavor. A day on this lake is a day well spent.
So pack a lunch, a drive from Rockford to Crab Orchard Lake is about five and half hours.
