Tutty’s Crossing Now Open in Freeport

Tutty's Crossing, a recreation area connecting the Jane Addams Trail and Pecatonica Prairie Trail opened Saturday in Freeport.

Saturday's events included a bike helmet giveaway, bicycle soccer and other activities.

The Jane Addams Trail, which spans 17 miles from Freeport to the Wisconsin stateline, is open to hikers, bicycles, snowmobiles and cross country skiers.

The Tutty's Crossing trailhead, located along the banks of the Pecatonica River in the 200 block of E. Stephenson Street, features parking, an information area and boat access. Future plans call for a shelter, restrooms and other amenities to be added to the site.

Tutty's Crossing is named after Freeport founder William "Tutty" Baker.
